Taiwan Association of Logistics Management

Company introduction

The Taiwan Association of Logistics Management

Due to globalization of world economies, liberalization of international trade, reduction of product life-cycle length, requirement of higher customer service levels, formation of strategic alliances, engagement of business process reengineering, and general environmental concerns, logistics has become the focal point for most enterprises worldwide.  Utilizing logistics as means to increase customer service level and meet customer demand has become an important strategy for enterprises to gain competitive advantage.

To promote a healthy, competitive business climate and to increase industry productivity, the Industry and Commerce Daily News has initiated the establishment of the Logistics Industry Club in October 1993.  This professional, but informal institute has immediately gained the support from Commerce Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and China Productivity Center.  The institute has also received wide acceptance from logistics, manufacturing, and business industries in Taiwan.  The establishment of the club set out the rapid growth of logistics industry in Taiwan.

By way of collaboration by all standing committee members, full support from the members, and the endeavor of the secretarial staff, many activities such as logistics-related conferences, forums, training courses, and domestic/overseas site visits, were held to achieve the founding objectives of the institute, that is, to upgrade logistics management capability and to create a favorable environment for logistics development.

After one year of successful operation, the institute has decided to turn into a formal organization to enhance its influence and social status.  The Taiwan Association of Logistics Management was then founded in January 1995.  Based on the solid foundation by the Club and guided by the policies and goals of the Association, the Association works aggressively and successfully.  The performance of the Association was significant and has been recognized by the industry.  In the future, the Association will increase its contact with international logistics organizations to make Association more globalized.

The 21st century has been characterized as a borderless era for business.  Logistics will play a more important role due to the globalization of industries, initiatives of supply chain management, wide spread use of Internet, and the application of E-Commerce.  In the future, the Association will continue its work to help domestic industries, especially logistics industries, to raise its competitive advantage.  In the meantime, the institute will keep to assist the government to achieve the goal of making Taiwan as a global logistics management center.
