Nick Liu
Qinghui Liu, born in Jishui, Jiangxi Province, with a PhD in Law, he served as a senior judge at Intellectual Property Division of Beijing Higher People’s Court. Now he is a partner and lawyer of AnJie Law Firm in Beijing, deputy Director and Expert of the Intellectual Property Arbitration Theory Research Committee of the China Academy of Arbitration Law. His practices include fields of Intellectual Property Law, Anti-monopoly Law, Business Law, Civil and Commercial Litigation, Arbitration.

Dr. Liu has studied at Peking University Law School and Beijing Normal University Law School, and received MA in Law and PhD in Law. He worked at Beijing Higher People’s Court for nearly 10 years, and during this period he served as judge and senior judge for nearly 8 years. He was mainly engaged in the trial and investigation of intellectual property right cases. He has rich experience in trial and outstanding achievements. Dr. Liu tried more than 2000 intellectual property cases, many of which brought profound and tremendous influences in law field. He tried various administrative IP case, including patent reexamination，patent invalidity, trademark reexamination, trademark invalidity, trademark ownership dispute, etc. Dr. Liu also tried extensive civil cases which involve invention，utility model，design，trademark，copyright，unfair competition，trade secret，technical contract dispute, domain name disputes etc. The Case of Administrative Disputes over Review on“Qingyang ”Trademark Oppositions in which he served as the principal judge was selected as the top 10 typical intellectual property right cases of Beijing People’s Court. The major patent cases he presided over include the patent invalidity case of “the drug portfolio used to treat GISTs” of Novartis, the re-examination of the dismissed case of invention patent application of “Quinazolone derivatives” of Gene Company Limited, the dismissal of the invention patent application of “azeotropic composition and its application” of E. I. Du Pont Denemours and Company, the case of patent nullity of Li Chengyi’s “replacement methods of copper and tin of PCB”, the case of CHNSUN accusing a company of violating its invention patent of “a sort of soft bag infusion line”, etc. The major patent cases of which he joined the trial includes IWNCOMM accusing Sony of WAPI standard necessary patent case, Apple “chatting robot system” invention patent nullity case (the small I robot case”), etc. 

Dr. Liu has solid academic research capacity in law and has marked research achievements. He has done in-depth research in multiple legal fields, and profound knowledge in the areas of patent law, trademark law and competition law. He drafted multiple referee cases, and two of them were selected to Beijing People’s Court which guide the practice of the courts in Beijing. He took part in many research projects of topic investigation of Beijing Higher People’s Court and Beijing Normal University Law School, and his research achievements were transferred. He solely authored a book entitled “Legal Application of Establishing and Granting Patent and Utility Model Right-Rules and Cases”(over 300,000 characters), and published over 10 specialized essays on core periodicals including Intellectual Property Law, Social Sciences of Beijing, Journal of Yunnan Normal University and The People’s Judicature, etc. He has also published over 10 specialized essays on zhichanli.com, an intellectual property electronic media platform.

Dr. Liu was invited to give lectures for many times by the court system, Beijing Patent Attorneys Association and Beijing Lawyers Association on Patent Administrative Litigation Practice and Issues, the Understanding and Application of the Patent Infringement Judging Guidelines 2017 of Beijing Higher People’s Court, and his lectures were widely acclaimed.
